Just curious what people are seeing as far as acorn so far . Seem pretty spotty in my area , very few White oak or chestnut oak . Did see quite a few Pin oak acorns on a few ridge tops though.

Iv'e seen one white oak dropping acorns. Talked to a game warden yesterday and he said the white oaks are slim this year.

Can't hardly walk around the neighborhood for the tree rats bombing us from both red and white oaks. Woods are full up here, should be good hunting off my stands. Hickory nuts are slim though (I use them in my smoker)

Several scouting trips to the National Forest near Roanoke have yet to reveal any acorns or hickory. Walnuts look good (for us squirrel hunters). A friend in Roanoke county says he has a few red oaks dropping near him, but not many.

Acorns are pretty scarce around the Nottoway/Ft. Pickett area. I have only seen a few trees with any acorns on them.

Must all be east of the mountains. Not much in my area or the parts of Wva I've been in.

The northwestern side of Stafford county is loaded with acorns, more than I've seen in the last 7 or 8 years.

After extensive scouting in the NF near Roanoke, I can say the acorn crop is extremely spotty. Not seeing many squirrels so decided to lay off them again this year. With so much space and such low deer density I'm thinking this will help the deer hunting since they will have to move more to find food. Also, it's looking like it will be colder this year. We cancelled our camping trip last year because it was just too hot. Can't wait!

Acorns are thick all over Rockingham and Augusta. I'm not sure what you're looking at, but theyre thick again this year.

I can only speak for Craig and Botetourt; and only for the places I normally scout/hunt.

I did some scouting in a local WMA yesterday. Quite a bit more, but still not an abundance.

Here in Craig county/ western mountains weird weather last spring screwed up the acorn crop, the seeds that helicopter off the maples aren't there and there aren't any apples or pears this year (we got zero apples off six trees). There are acorns HIGH UP on the mountain where it stayed cold in March of 2016. That's where the squirrels moved to and it's where the deer have to go to get acorns. Up high there are plenty. Down low, not-so-much.
