SouthWest reporting in.
Some very nice deer from out yall's way...

The is the Halo Buck.

I watched him, all through archery season and black-powder season, waiting for a clear shot. 2nd day of rifle season he followed a doe right past my blind.

The 300BLK produced a minute-of-heart shot. 220 grain bullet. The buck bolted 60 yards off the ridge and collapsed in the hollow.

Very nice buck knee, and that's a picture perfect shot for sure.

What kind of rifle were you using and what distance was it?

Thanks.
I'm using an Anderson AR SBR that I built. And my hand loads.
The 220's do not expand at all but will penetrate 2 chunks of firewood lengthwise. Add a hole through both shoulders, both lungs, and the heart, it works.

I should have put the bullet at the base of his ear, at 35 yards, but I did not want to destroy the value of his head as a mount.

I'm really enjoying this thread. Esp the does and small bucks when the hunters are obviously thrilled with their trophy - that's what hunting is about.

That is a nice buck, good day for you and your boy... although the downside is... he's ruined now. laugh He thinks getting the big bucks is easy now, gonna expect it every time.

Congratulations bigbuck! Kids first deer is a great memory, well worth the taxidermy bill.

Took a couple does during ML season and then it seemed like the deer all went nocturnal for firearms!!! Time to cull those squirrels!!!

I don't know about you're area, but around me once the dogs hit the ground it tends to throw the deer off their routine and still hunting becomes more hit and miss(so to speak).

I didn't get to hunt the last couple weeks until yesterday, dogs were moving around but nothing ever came my way. frown

Definitely need to thin out the squirrels around here too, maybe get some other little critters.
