What medium / coolant do you use in your can?
And what do you use to keep it clean and corrosion free?

If you are shooting "wet", then plain water or wire pulling gel (get it at lowes or home depot) is fine. Distilled water is best since most Virginia water is hard or is being treated with large amounts of salt/softener. Both will eventually leave a mineral residue which can be difficult to remove.

It really depends on the baffles and outer can material and finish. I usually just use an ultrasonic cleaner on them. For really stubborn carbon buildup, WD-40 works wonders, but you need to give it time to soak in and break it up. BTW, if you use WD-40, make sure you clean it out completely...nothing sucks like your can on fire.

Each manufacturer usually has recommendations for cleaning. Here is Silencerco's http://www.silencerco.com/?section=Support&page=Maintenance or example.

There is a substance known as the "dip". It is distilled white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide mixed in a 50/50 ratio. It is okay for stainless steel, but will absolutely destroy aluminum. It is dangerous to work with (will chemically burn you) and produces a toxic byproduct (lead acetate).

+1 for what Immortal said. The pulling gel is a logical option being a sythetic with lubricating properies.

when i shoot wet I use motor oil, also use it to clean my guns, if it's good enough for my truck, it's good enough for my guns

I got a e-mail back from YHM. 24 hour soak in mineral spirits . After you remove the O-rings. I was told they have found nothing better to clean up there cans.

I have a Yankee Hill and went the mineral spirits route the first time. Doesn't get all the carbon off the baffles even after a couple of days of soaking. Still lots of scrubbing. Next the tried and true military method - diesel in an ammo can hauled around in the truck for a couple of days. Works a lot better. Will have to try the ultrasound route.
