What's up with that? Here and on Arfcom, lots of Gen4's. Are people just not feeling them or what?

I've heard extractor problems, but most of it is hear-say I'm guessing. My buddy has a gen 4 and it's been nothing but great. We could spread some rumor that gen 2's are the best and watch the demand go up.

Over on GlockTalk there are a lot of threads about the Gen4 Glocks. I know a lot of the PD's are switching to them now, but I haven't heard of any issues.

Personally, I love the Gen3's. They fit my hand perfect and I really don't have the use for the features of the Gen4's.

the first version of gen4 had issues with the recoil spring.
there was a recall.
My money would say that a gen4 glock is more reliable than most other pistols out there.

I know that last year, Oakland PD recalled all Gen 4s and reissued the Gen 3 Glock 22s. I would imagine the guns were gone over, and issued again, but that part never got back to me.

I really have grown to like my gen4 G19. At first the RTF kind of took some getting used to but I like it now. Never heard any problem about the extractor.

I'm still a GEN 3 guy. Looking for a G19 RTF. The one with the polymid grip and WITHOUT the silly sweeping "fish gill" serrations.

Then you should just get a gen 4 19 same gun just little less aggressive grip!

In a Comtac Minotaur IWB, a gen4 was like 80 grit sand paper on my side all day. Completely uncomfortable. Went back to my gen3, and let the gen4 go.

Just my .02

My gen4 g19 is as good as any of the gen3 guns I've owned. Nothing but Glock reliability.

I love both gens 3/4 but sometimes the 3 can become a bit slick the gen 4 eliminates this issue. In a life or death situation where nerves are involved your palms may become a bit wet just keep that in mind. Yea there will probly be some posts about this but unless your lawenforcement you don't have these type of situations. Therefore I think the gen 4 are perfect for civilians. And just as good for law enforcement.

I don't think that it's as much the gen4's being sold over the gen 3's, as much as that's what's being bought new, and there's a lot of people just buy a gun without ever test firing it or going to a range.

I have a significant number of friends who are first time gun owners, and I'm usually the first/only person they come to about buying a gun. I always tell them to go and rent a couple of guns at the range. Most of them don't, and buy a glock because it's less expensive that the others, and it's what everone else has. Then they shoot it, and woah, it's not for them.

Then I tell them about how the law allows them to sell it themselves (usually mentioning that the loophole isn't actually a loophole, but that's the only thing they've heard) and point them this way, to vaguntrader.

I've fired thousands of rounds through gen 2, 3, and 4 glocks, and haven't noticed a reliability/accuracy difference between them.

No problems out of my Gen 4 19 and it has the 1st series recoil spring - they just wouldn't cycle light loads for some people (AKA they limp wristed the guns)

Mine works with "Mouse Fart" loads!

Every gun I've purchased has been something I've never shot before. Haven't sold one yet! Not a glock guy; I don't care for hammerless semis.

Anyway, I think it's more cost effective to buy new or used vice renting.
I don't decide whether or not I like a gun the first time I shoot it; usually takes me 3 or 4 good range trips before I've worked out the kinks with each weapon (personal kinks, not mechanical).
Anyway, say you rent a gun at a range; that's usually around $30. Then, you have to buy their ammo, which is usually WAY over priced (ie, $35 for 50 rounds of .45acp). Personally, I like to have about 200 rounds threw a gun before I make a decision about it; that would cost about $140 if you're using a rental.

Plus, I usually shoot at the NRA range, or at family property, which is less than the ranges with rentals.
But, I guess if you're only gonna shoot 20 rounds before whether or not you like a gun, a rental is a good way to go. smile

I gotta say, your situation seems "different".maybe its the way you worded it and I hope so from a vaguntrader member but read the post again and tell me there isnt a dodgy note behind it.
How many people don't test-fire anything after deciding they NEED a gun, then go and buy a glock, which is NOT the cheapest gun on the market.

Try reading the 'stupidest thing you ever heard at a gunshow' thread or whatever it's called. I'm quite sure there are VERY many people that buy handguns with absolutely ZERO gun experience.

Think about how many people buy the most expensive computer because the guy at best buy told them it was the best?

Yea, thinking about it, you're probably right. I would do some sort of research or have some sort of knowledge about a tool before investing hundreds of dollars in it but obviously there are plenty of others who wouldn't.

one of my mags in my gen 4 has a problem with remington ammo. the OAL of rem. 9mm is .05" shorter than all others that i've come across. one of my g17 mags doesn't want to chamber the last round if it's rem.
other than that, i'd say the quality is still there and i do like the new grips and the extra mag.

How is my situation different? I come into contact with a large segment of the population who are clueless about guns. I tell them to try a bunch out at a range, and then give them a list of guns that I think are good. Sig, HK, Glock, Springfield XD. Some of them try them out, others go straight to a gun show or shop and listen to the salesman. Out of that batch, Glocks are usually the least expensive Once they buy a gun, i tell them to Take it to the range and shoot it regularly. Then I tell them to look into VCDL, and to know their rights - one of which is their ability to sell it to another virginia citizen without going through a FFL or background check. None of them have ever heard of this, only the "gun show loophole" which is a joke in NoVA, since very little of that even goes on at the Nations Gun Show. For people who are not used to shooting, it's not the best starter gun

I've seen hundreds of people buy very expensive things without even holding it, let alone testing it out, guns are no different. Computers and TV's off the internet, $1800.00 paintball guns at the store I used to work at because Ollie Lang shoots it, Skis, Beds, Lawn tractors, houses without checking to see if it's a crappy neighborhood, etc. hell, a $550 glock is chump change compared to those things.

Wish I had a dollar for every friend I recommended at least trying a Glock and they end up buying a Hi-Point.
