This past summer, one of the VGT members was selling rejects from a reloading company. I have finally gotten around to pulling them apart and I'm ready to load.

However, examining the amount of powder in the rejects has proved fruitless, as the amounts were all over the place. Has anyone successfully used their powder and how much is a good starting load?

Shoot Cash is King a PM. We will be working up loads soon. BTW the 9mm pistol reject powder levels were extremely consistent by bullet type.

Thanks! I only bought the 223 rejects, and they varied from 19 to about 35 grains.

If only I shot 9mm these days...

If you're talking about the AMerc ammo, then I understand. I They probably have more rejects than quality ammo.

That was a pretty good deal at the time for the rejects. But I would not use the powder unless I knew for certain what powder those rounds had been loaded with. Even with that knowledge I would start at the low end of a suggested load and work up. If you only had a pound of it to work with I would not take a chance loading anything with it.

Howdy!

Now that I'm out of rejects, I'm happy to share my findings.

The .223 powder I've been loading myself as equivalent to Hodgons BLC-2. For .223, I've been keeping it to 25gr, though I've experimented up to 26gr. for what it's worth, another user started to see flattened primers when reloading the A-merc cases with 26gr of powder. Depending on your casings, your mileage may vary.

Also for what it's worth, the .223 loadings tended to be about 25gr of powder. Interestingly, the 55gr bullets and the 62gr green tips seemed to have the same powder content, which strikes me as a bit odd.

Hope you are getting good mileage out of your rejects!

I've also loaded up a few .308 using BL-C2 data, though I have not yet fired them.

I've been using all the reclaimed parts, and putting new primers in (Winchester small rifle, for the most part)

I've settled on 25.5gr of the powder. This cycles my 20" rifle length AR-15 flawlessly. I've used it with the A-merc brass, and mixed headstamp blasting brass. The mixed headstamp brass shoots perfectly. The A-merc, well... The casings are reloadable, but they tend to "swell", for lack of a better word. I get a lot more cases that have diffucilty extracting, and also resizing, even after lubing, in the dies. I tend to lose about 10% of the casings that way every time I reload them.

I experimented up to 26.5gr of powder, where I saw flattened primers and even had one explosively blow out the primer and fill the mag with crud. I stopped shooting those and pulled them. 25gr of powder would tend to have short-stroke issues, especially when reloading the A-merc brass. 25.5 was really the sweet spot for performance.

I've only been using the 55gr FMJ-BT bullets so far, and they shoot excellent with this load. For what it's worth, I've yet to notice an appreciable change in accuracy in bullets that I pulled clean with an impact puller vs. those that I pinched a little using a collet puller, and have collet marks on them.

For anyone interested in repeating the loads:

55gr reclaimed FMJ-BT bullets w/cannelure
25.5gr of reclaimed powder
OAL of 2.255 +/- .005
Trim length of 1.750 (+/- a bit, depending on headstamp)
Winchester SR primers. (tried a few others, didn't notice any performance difference.

I plan on trying out some 62gr .223 and some 150gr .308 loads with it next. I'm sitting on about 16 pounds of the stuff at the moment, so it ought to keep me in blasting ammo for some time to come.

I purchased a "few" of the .223 rejects. I pulled them all apart and rebuilt them. I don't know on the velocity but I shot over 500 reloads using the reject powder and bullets with no malfunctions in my 16" ar. I reloaded with 24 grains and the 55 grain reject bullets.

When I started pulling the cartridges I was weighing the powder and it was all across the board. I had weights from 21 grains up to 29 grains of powder.

That was with the reject (unknown) powder and reject bullets.

I purchased some rejects from Dalaram and noticed a major sway of powder charges between each round.

the powder is alright though, just work up a load.

Measure the loads from the rejects, average them, then use the average to start your load, and from there ***PLAY NICE*** the case you just reloaded. smile
