With the Supreme Court ruling to restrict straw sales "The Washington Post reports that by a five to four margin, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the Federal government “may strictly enforce a law that prohibits straw purchases of guns intended for others, siding with gun control groups and the Obama administration.” My question is: Can I purchase a gun to give to my wife as a gift? I like to give her the occasional anniversary gift of a nice gun. She holds a concealed carry permit the same as I do.

Look at the instructions on the 4473, it explains ATF's position on this.
"You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party."
