might be worth buying 1-2 just for resale when the next gun freak out happens and these go to $1100 if you can find them.

Hi KCO, You are sadly mistaken. The S&W M&P 15 SPORT is a bottom of the barrel no frills rifle with no ejection port cover, no M16 BGC, no forward assist, no chrome lined barrel etc. It is just a basic plinker rifle with the lowest quality of everything (except the lower receiver). This rifle has NEVER sold for $1100. You must be getting mixed up with the S&W M&P 15T (M&P 15T rifle is the real deal).

It is the least expensive rifle in the M&P15 lineup but those that shoot them and those that reviewed the rifle give it excellent marks. The ejection port cover and forward assist seem to be a straw argument. I know active and retired military who never needed the FA in their entire time in the sandbox. Port cover is a different thing but I don't see 100' high sand dunes in the Commonwealth, even at Mt. Trashmore....Anything but cheap as far as quality, fit and finish are concerned. That being said, I would not buy them hoping to double my money the next time some A$$hole goes on a shooting spree and the anti gun crowd gets their panties in a wad again.

Those rifles were selling for $1,500 from mid-December of 2012 to about February or March of 2013.
