I really need some help here folks. I bought a AK47 from someone it is new unshot. I noticed while cleaning the dust cover is loose. Not back and forth (that's tight). But up and down under the rear site. Im puzzled and bummed out. I like this rifle. It is a polsh from the Radom Poland plant imported by I.O.arms. Ive checked the rear trunion it seem to be ligned up properly with the rear of the receiver. Am I S.O.L or is there help? Please advise. Thanks ,reloadin'

I don't see an issue with what your describing, unless you can remove the cover because it is excessively loose. If it just wobbles a bit thats normal. An ak's reliability comes from the "slop" that they are built with. Most parts on ak are suppose to fit loosely.

Thanks for your response Run24x. It just concerns me me .Seems to be more than I have seen in others. It's about a 1/16"up and down under the rear sight. It doesn't appear that it would come off unless removed intentionally. Maybe Im being critical? I dont't know

I wouldn't see a problem with it, like I said the "slop" in the way ak's are assembled is part of the reason they are so reliable. I would say shoot it and see if it gives you any problems.

Your being AR critical. If it doesnt fall off or fly off while shooting dont worry about it.

Take a pair of needle nosed pliers and slightly bend the outside front lower edges right/left in a tad, rattle all gone!

Use a scrap of leather if you do that so that the tool doesn't mark the edge or make a rough spot.

Very true.

Just slightly bend the edge. As long as it shoots, its good to go.

AK's are loose by nature, just how it is. Don't worry about it.

I had the same issue with a Polish I.O. but mine was so bad that it would fly off while firing, turns out the geniuses at I.O. pinned the rear sight block on a fraction of an inch to far forward. I slightly opened up the recoil assembly hole and bent the rear of the top cover out to extend the length. Count yourself lucky its staying in place. Another option is an AK100 series or saiga top cover (smooth top available at KVAR), they're slightly longer than AKM top covers. Becareful bending the front, If the cover is to low and tight you will have FTE issues.
