A trick that my friends and i have been using that has been successful. When you see a squirrel on the ground but cant get a shot, bum rush it so it runs up the closest tree rather than back to its nest. Then one person sets up and aims up the tree and the other circles the tree to get the squirrel moving.

Got three on the third. Something that I do is when I shoot one I wait right where I am as still as possible and any other squirrels that are close to you will come right back out and resume doing what they were doing, all's they know is there was a loud crack and there friend's flopping around on the ground but they can't figure out where it came from so they just go back to what they were doing it works well for me anyway. Also anybody sell their tails to mepps? And do yall wanna know a awesome Brunswick stew recipe?

Do yall eat them if they've got wolves on em? Depending on the size and location of em I'll still eat them. But I shot one today with a big one on its back I couldn't get my self to skin it with a big black worm wiggling around in its back. So I left it for the foxes.

I usually wait till after at least one, if not two good freezes before I start squirrel hunting. That way the wolves are gone. I got a couple wabbits yesterday, but didn't think to take pics. facepalm

A couple of pics from last year. Decided not to go this year as there has been a sharp decline in
numbers due to poor mast production. Hope they rebound next year!

Thanks, it was my dad's. It's a Remington 541S. We have quite a few fox squirrels out here. That was a young one.

Here's my Brunswick stew recipe right in time for Christmas Shoot 3 or four squirrels clean them
2/3cup of diced onions
1 28oz can of diced peeled tomatoes
1 28oz can of whole kernel corn
1 15oz can of Lima beans or a bag of frozen beans
1 15oz can of sliced potatoes or 2 cups of fresh 1/2inch cubed potatoes
2tsp of table salt
4oz of bacon
Water
Pepper
4 splashes of worshtershire sauce
1 32oz box of chicken broth

Clean and wash three or four large squirrels (four will give you a heartier, meatier stew).
Place in a large stainless steel pot with 2 teaspoons of table salt cover halfway with water and add 32oz box of chicken broth to cover the rest. Cut your burner on and boil until the meat is tender.
Dice 4oz of bacon into a frying pan and fry without crisping.
Pick meat off the bones dice meat into 1/4 in pieces or so and pick out gristle or tendons.
Mix diced meat with bacon and fry until the bacon is fully crisp and stir in with broth.
Dice 2/3 of a cup of onion (a cup is you like onions).
Open all cans
Drain potatoes, corn, and Lima beans, pour whole can juice and all of tomatoes and mix in with the other vegetables
Simmer until onions and potatoes are tender
Season with 4 splashes of worshtershire sauce and salt and pepper to taste
Serve and enjoy

I don't usually mess with em during warm weather, too much chance they'll have the wolves. Plus all the ticks and whatnot moving around in the woods and it's gonna be pretty hot and humid. frown

I just figured it would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone. Scout, clear trails, and mess with food plots and still get to get some meat.

I'm considering it. Not open in the National Forest, but is open on certain WMA's.

Yeah, I started to use "whatnot" instead of "fellow" as a reference to your earlier post. I spend a lot of time in the woods and I rarely see a snake. Still, when you encounter one of these you can get spooked. Got "woofed" at by a bear last month while chasing gobblers. That wasn't nearly as frightening.

I was working at a customers house recently and they started freaking because they saw a snake in one of their plastic tool sheds. I was able to ge it out and saw it was a good size black snake. I got the best of it and caught it, put it in a box and brought it home. Cut it loose in the woods near the house, figure I'll let him worry about the "whatnots" for me. laugh

The bear would have totally freaked me out by the way. I know they're around here, but never had to face one yet.
