All - I've gone and found one of my grail guns ... an un-assembled, un-molested, un-issued Detonics Streetmaster in .45 ACP
Short version - it's a super compact frame (6+1) with a full length 5" slide. It's hot. see attached for pic examples (that's not the actual gun - mine's in parts).
I'm having it finished at Alchemy Custom Weaponry .. and I'm splurging a bit.
Here's my list of "work to be done" thus far...
- Kart NM bbl, flush crown - debating a second fit bbl, threaded? meh, idk - Front Strap Checkering - Swap MSH to checkered (either Ed Brown or Smith& Alexander) - Three dot sights (maybe tritium?) - Greider NM Skeleton Trigger - Wilson Ultralight Skeleton Hammer - Ed Brown extended thumb safety - Wilson Oversize mag release - Ed Brown Hardcore Slide Stop - Grips of Desert Burl Ironwood
Unsure about the final finish - thinking Nitride Gray.
I'm just kinda rambling here; list will change as I get closer to final pickup date.
What say you, VAGT? cause I'm saying mm mm good!

I'd go with a Metaloy finnish.

Well, I'm into it now...
Here's the parts list coming from Detonics.. All are raw parts, so the finish is still completely up in the air
Frame Thin Grip Bushings Thin Grips Grip Screws Trigger Magazine Catch Magazine Catch Lock Spring Magaznine Catch Lock Mainspring Housing Mainspring Assembly Mainspring Pin Grip Plug Thumb Safety Hammer Sear Disconnector Sear Spring Sear Pin Hammer Pin Hammer Strut Slide Stop Plunger Assembly Slide Front/Rear Sight Standard Magazine Firing Pin Stop Firing Pin Extractor
Working with Alchemy Custom Weaponry on the finishing details - looks like I'll have a bunch of spare parts given all I'm having done to it.
More updates to come as this progresses.. Holy cow, this sucker is happening!

An update -
Parts are shipping to Alchemy Custom Weaponry this week. Once Rob gets them, he's going to give them a once over and shoot me a call with his thoughts. I'll be relying HEAVILY on his input in crafting this gun.
I should have a picture of the actuals here in a few days or so - I'll post them up when I do.
I have ruled out the bobtail - this thing should be plenty short in the butt as it is.

Looks like a sweet set up. Have used ACW in the past for several 1911's, they are true professionals. Looking forward to finished project Pics.

As more pics come in I'll post them up! Rob at Alchemy is a great dude.
Thinking about changing things up a bit and ditching the oversize mag release / slide stop. Keeping over-sized thumb safety.
Am leaning more towards just bead blasting the sucker and leaving it stainless.
