I recently got into the arisaka and the Japanese 7.7x58 and I have to say , both are impressive (as opposed to most stories of both) good strong rifle and action , well designed , strong powerful round , I wonder what happened ?

Not many Arisakas or other Military surplus stuff came back from Japan for sale on the open market. The markets were flooded with surplus Mauser rifles which is a pretty good action itself. There was a whole industry built on sporterizing them.I have a 1918 GEW98 built by J.P.Sauer and Sohn that had been sportered when I got it. Would love to have seen it in original condition.
